Student Admissions Representative Application (off-campus)

The Student Admissions Representative (STAR) is a paid summer position for student leaders who are interested in recruiting new UConn Huskies and welcoming the Class of 2027 to our campus.

Description of Role: STARs will be trained and serve as a comprehensive admissions student employee. The roles and responsibilities will include:

1.       Customer Service: Greeting guests for our orientation programs, at the Lodewick Visitors Center and at Tasker Hall.

2.       Email and Phone Response: STARs will be trained to answer the phones and emails for the office of admissions and provide excellent customer service and information to prospective students and their families.

3.       Processing and special projects: STARs will assist with processing tasks including entering information into the student and counselor database and other special projects throughout the summer.

4.       Tour Guides: STARs will be trained to give tours of our campus and potentially schools and colleges. These tours could be conducted for prospective students and families or incoming students and families attending our orientation programs.

5.       Outreach: STARs will work to conduct outreach to prospective students and families from underrepresented populations to help them to see how UConn could become a home for them and to assist with transitioning them to campus.

Position Requirements:

·         STARs should be passionate about creating a welcoming environment for the next class of Huskies.

·         Involvement or experience on-campus

·         Must be available May 8 – August 26

·         Required to work 35 hours / week (full-time) except when on vacation

·         Required to work one Saturday per month

·         Training meetings will be held during the month of April and there will be an intensive training period during May at the beginning of the program

·         Summer classes must not interfere with the completion of the weekly hour requirement

·         Students must be continuing enrollment in a full-time program in the Fall 23 semester

·         Public speaking and presentation skills training - You will be instructed on UConn history, facts and figures and how to present that information in a compelling and confident manner. The ability to speak effectively and lead presentations are valuable skills for any career.

·         Leadership development -We also have opportunities for advancement including serving as a Leader and Coordinator of the program. 

·         A $500/month stipend will be provided for housing

·         35-hour full time work week. The rate will be $14.15 /hour. On July 1, the rate will increase to $15.15/hour.

·         Students will work approximately 7-hour days

·         Each student will receive a 1 hour lunch break

·         10 days of vacation will be available for each employee during the summer period.
